Asparagus

Asparagus also knowns as sparrow grass is a perennial flowering plant species in the genus Asparagus.

Asparagus origin is believed to be the eastern Mediterranean and further east, in the Caucasus Mountains, is also grown in some parts of Africa, like in the northern part of Nigeria, specifically in Jos, Plateau State. it is locally known in Hausa as “Shekan Bera,” it is called “Aluki” in Yoruba. As a chef my passion for using fresh vegetables is totally undeniable so i love to study plants and it benefits to health, over the years of my cooking experience Asparagus is one of my favorite vegetable of all time for it’s grassy and nutty flavor profile with subtle hints of sweetness and bitterness. You can enjoy it fresh in salads and stir-fries, or cooked either by steaming, boiling, grilling, roasting or even sautéing. asparagus is usually found year-round in grocery stores, like most produce, it has a peak season. You will find the best asparagus during spring. Asparagus season usually starts around late February and goes until June, but the peak months are in April and May. Asparagus is rich in minerals and vitamins A, C and folic acid. It’s a fibrous vegetable that may support a healthy gut, as well as help to lower blood pressure.

Asparagus is healthy for both men and women because is high in vitamin C and has a number of positive effects on sperm helps to fight radicals as well as protects the testicular cells, paving the way to better sperm counts, increased motility, and sperm quality in men and it also a key fertility booster for women who are trying to conceive as it contains a good amount of vitamin C and E and top up with zinc, manganese and selenium.
